About us

The school for trainers and future trainers.

If you want to help people feel better and perform through exercise, you need three things: knowledge that holds up, experience on the gym floor and the ability to adapt training to each person. That is what we teach, and it has been our focus since 2016. Our courses are taught in Swedish.

What we stand for

You can come here to become a trainer or to get better at a job you already have. We give you knowledge, practice and feedback you can use with real clients.

Wherever you start, you get a syllabus, teachers who follow you all the way, a class to grow with and a network that stays when you finish.

Many training providers count how many people they train. We have set a limit: at most 60 new personal trainers a year, in classes the teachers have time to follow. Fewer starts, more time for each student.

Success, Science and Community.

Success

Your success is measured by your clients.

Knowledge is not enough, you need to be able to use it with the person in front of you. That is why you work on real cases with supervision and feedback throughout the course.

Science

What we teach should hold up.

Teachers who do research at the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH) and work as physiotherapists and national team coaches. What we teach comes from research and from the gym floor, and “it depends” is an honest answer when it is true.

Community

The class stays with you.

You study in a class, and when the course ends the network remains. Alumni meetings, events and TA's trainer network for everyone who has trained with us. It is included when you study here, and we care as much about you as a trainer as we do about you as a student.

Why we started

Broader skills. More practice.

Carl Norell and Jakob Dehnisch started Tränarakademin in 2016. Carl was a physiotherapist and coach for endurance athletes, Jakob an athlete and an engineer. Both saw the same thing: a trainer meets people with different goals and starting points, and being good at one thing is not enough.

So we built a course with breadth, covering strength, endurance, mobility and coaching, with individual adaptation running through it and more room for practice and learning by doing than we had in our own education. The sessions take place at Bosön, the sports centre in Stockholm, the teachers work in the field, and every course has a syllabus, an examination and an attendance requirement.

What started with the two of us is today a team of 19 teachers with experience from both practice and research. Together we develop and run the courses.

Instead of staring at what others do, we have stuck to one thing: courses that give our students skills they can use.
